Dear Class of 2017,

You made it! Congratulations…

Undoubtedly this is the one word you will be hearing over and over again in the next few days. But I will not just stop with that. Getting into the University of Sunderland in London is an achievement and given that you have made it to one of the most competitive cities in the world, you should be incredibly proud of yourself. However, you should know that this day is special for more than just that achievement. Why? Because while you were crying tears of joy, there was an entire group of people doing the same, waiting to welcome you to the University of Sunderland in London family.

A year ago I was welcomed here with open arms and a broad smile. In a few days my feelings of nervousness and anxiety changed into happiness and consolation that coming here was one of the best decisions I made. The individual attention given to each student diverse in all ways and the very down to earth academic staff made me feel I was at a home away from home.

I made new friends to keep for life, worked part-time with one of the best retail companies – Next Plc. and completed my degree-MBA Marketing with a Merit. And just when I couldn’t contain my excitement, I was awarded an internship at the University of Sunderland in London in Marketing and Student Recruitment. It was competitive, yes it was! Hard work, preparation and a little prayer is what it took to get me here. But let me tell you what made the University of Sunderland in London stand out for me…

The gentle, encouraging and humble people who work at the University of Sunderland in London, the academic staff, the support staff, and the students; to them I was more than a number. I was a human, more than my grades and achievements.

Joining the University of Sunderland in London was the biggest risk I had taken, to move several miles away from home to a place where I practically knew no one. But that’s not how I feel now because the University of Sunderland in London is a University that stretches beyond the academics, extracurricular activities and societies proof to which you can find on our website at http://london.sunderland.ac.uk/ and our social media pages on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/my.uslc/; Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sunderlandunilondon/ and Twitter https://twitter.com/UoSinLondon.

Welcome class of 2017 to University of Sunderland in London, welcome home!
